Artwork Care

These recommendations apply to original watercolor paintings on watercolor paper.

Handling

Handle your artwork with clean, dry hands, holding it gently by the edges. Avoid touching the painted surface and support the paper when moving it.

Framing

Professional conservation framing is recommended. Choose acid-free mounting materials and UV-filtering glass or acrylic, with a mat or spacers to prevent the artwork from touching the glazing.

Avoid adhesive tape, glue, or permanent mounting directly on the artwork.

Display

Keep your artwork away from direct sunlight and strong lighting. UV-filtering glazing helps protect it but does not prevent all light-related fading.

Choose a dry indoor space with stable conditions, away from radiators, air-conditioning vents, and damp walls. Avoid bathrooms and areas exposed to steam or splashes.

Storage

Until framed, store your artwork flat in an archival-quality folder or enclosure, in a dry, dark place. Avoid folding, rolling, or placing heavy objects on it.

Cleaning

Do not apply water, cleaning products, varnish, or fixative to the artwork. Avoid rubbing or brushing the painted surface.

If the artwork becomes damaged or requires cleaning, consult a professional paper conservator.
